Starting Desktop Sharing on a Remote Computer

Desktop Sharing is a feature included with the technology to show the content of your desktop to all participants and moderators in the tcConference room.

This article will explain how to start and use Desktop Sharing on a remote computer. This procedure can be used to start Desktop Sharing on any remote computer logged into the room. Since non-moderators cannot start Desktop Sharing themselves, this procedure is usually employed to start Desktop Sharing on computers of non-moderators.

The remote user must approve the request to start Desktop sharing on their computer.

The Steps:

  1. Log into the room as a moderator .
  2. Moderator must move the mouse over the intended user's name who will be requested to start Desktop Sharing.
  3. Right click on the selected user name.
  4. Click Ask user to share desktop.
  5. The user will be prompted with "your user name" would like to see your your computer desktop. Do you allow this?
  6. To permit starting Desktop Sharing on a remote computer, the user will click Yes.

Desktop Sharing will start on the remote computer and the online audience will see everything on the remote desktop.

Note: Since the entire desktop will be shared, the remote user must ensure that no confidential or personal information will be visible during the Desktop Sharing session.

Taking Control of the Remote Computer

There may be times when a moderator may wish to take control of the remote computer. The remote user must always approve the request to take over their computer.

The Steps:

  1. Desktop Sharing must be running on the remote computer.
  2. The moderator will Right click anywhere in the co-browser area on his/her computer and select Ask user to allow desktop control.
  3. The remote user will be prompted with User "your user name" wants to take control of your windows desktop. Would you like to give control to "your user name"? If the remote user can't see the request, they should ensure the message is not hiding under another window.
  4. To grant this permission, the remote user would click Yes

After permission has been approved, the moderator can use the mouse and keyboard to control the remote computer.

Revoking Remote Control:

To take back control, the remote user would click the Middle mouse button.

Stopping Desktop Sharing

When Desktop Sharing is started, the application's icon is moved to the System Tray (Systray) area - it is labeled Desktop Viewer is running.
  1. Find the Desktop Sharing is running icon and double click on the icon. The five-button Desktop Sharing menu will be displayed. Or right click on the icon and select Exit
  2. Click the Close desktop sharing button (fifth or last button)

Desktop Sharing will be stopped.
