FireFox Considerations

Solution Updated May 2012

The tcConference application is launched using a web browser. Once launched, the browser has no further part to play. Most browsers can be used and it has been tested with Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome.

The following discussion is meant for those using Firefox and who manually download the tcConference Plugin (a small application).

There should be no problems if the following instructions are followed:

  1. Click Download and Save the file. The file will be saved in the folder you've specified.
  2. When the file is downloaded, a display dialog will so indicate.
  3. Click on the most recent file - webconferenceplugin.exe - to install the plugin.
  4. When the plugin has been installed, Click on the link to enter the room.
  5. A Launch Application dialog will appear - and a file will have been selected by Firefox. At this point, nothing should be touched.
  6. Press OK.
If the choice is made to hide this dialog from future logins, check Remember my choice for tc5 links before pressing OK.

If the option is given to choose a file, ALWAYS select the installed file ... NOT the downloaded file. The names appear to be similar. The one you need is the one with the caps - WebConferencePlugin. The one with all lower case letters is the plugin and should not be used.

Should the plugin file accidentally be chosen, the plugin will be installed when you click on the link to enter the room. This is not what you want to do. To correct this, go through the following steps:

  1. Click the Tools menu.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Applications.
  4. Scroll down to the tc5 item and choose the selection Always Ask.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click on the link to enter the Room and follow the steps previously discussed.

The following movie will serve to graphically illustrate this procedure. View Movie
